We first bought our rural villa here in Vera over 10 years ago. It was an abandoned cortijo, farm house with about 10,000 square
metres of land that had sea and mountain views. The ideal property was located by Angel Property of Palomares a local established
estate agent. We then went about rebuilding our 200 year old cortijo. The first thing we needed to do was to consult a qualified
architect who interpreted our rough drawing and went about making all the necessary structural amendments. The plans were drawn up
and submitted to the local town hall for approval. We were limited to the size of the new build which related to registered size of
the original building. Our villa has a build size of 150square metres and another 75 m2 of terraces with fantastic views across our
orange and olive groves. By this time we had met a number of other Brits who had also relocated to Almeria and taken on similar projects.
We sort their advice on a local builder and we were fortunate in finding one that stuck to the agreed budget and timescale for the
completion of our new home. Once completed and inspected we were then given the licenses of habitation and the new deeds to the property.
We did have a few snagging issues with the build which the constructor quickly fixed. I now spend much of my time relaxing on the terrace
watching the oranges grow. Buy and building our dream home in Vera, Almeria has been a project that mostly went well and helpful staff at

desert to lush mountain range of the Sierra Nevada is very appealing. The coastline of Almeria stretches from the port of Adra next to
the province of Granada to the north where it meets the region of Murcia and has some of the best beaches in all of Spain.
